Addressing Complexity: Networking for Dynamic Virtualized Servers and Storage
Establishing physical network connectivity in a data center only solves half the problem: How will the logical network configuration track migration of virtual machines among physical servers -- in response to new applications, server outages, and load balancing requirements? Similarly, how can the network configuration respond to changing virtual storage and perimeter security requirements? How does network troubleshooting occur in such a complex environment? In dynamic virtualized data centers, theres a whole new set of networking challenges to be met. Issues this Burton Group POV will address include:
• Network tracking of virtual machine migration among physical servers
• Orchestration/provisioning of applications vs. network configurations
• Interplay of server-based virtual Ethernet switches with real switch hardware
• Network security including use of VLANs and ACLs in support of perimeters and zones
• Virtualized storage configurations in converged switching environments
• Network troubleshooting and performance management challenges in a virtualized data center
